TORONTO

A little over a year ago I caught a plane and left this place for another place, that place was the United States of America. I studied for a semester there last year in Buffalo. Prior to commencing my studies, my friend and I visited New York and Toronto. After visiting my ‘dream city’ NYC in the summertime, I have to say I was not that impressed, it was kind of… gross, ah! sorry! no offence NYC, you were awesome when it was cooler.

Although it didn’t quite live up to my enormous expectations, of course, I was still very impressed and it’s not very easy to be impressed by anything after spending time in that unbelievably huge city. However, after I explored Toronto, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a really nice city, it reminded me of Melbourne. I was only there for two weeks so I can’t go into too much detail but it seemed to have a cool vibe and culture. I definitely want to go back one day, I am lucky enough to have some family there so the chances that it will happen are thankfully high.

Seeing as it’s been about a year, I thought I’d post some photos to remember my time in this interesting city. Oh before I get to the photos, this is random but, don’t you think Toronto is a good name for a city?

The second photo is of myself and my friend that I travelled with during the five months I was away. I kind of miss my pink fringe. I was wearing a dress from myl, shoes from Queen’s Wardrobe, tights and socks from Target. The necklace is from an accessories store in Toronto, I forgot what it was called though and I made the grey bow myself. I’m pretty sure my friend’s dress is from Forever 21 and her shoes are the Mary Roks by Jeffrey Campbell via Solestruck. The photo of the shoes is of my friend, her shoes are by Jeffrey Campbell, also from Solestruck.

WTF?

OMG, finally an outfit photo!!!!!!! and sadly said outfit photo aint too great. Apologies, it was taken at a late time and for some reason we didn’t even think to use the flash. I know… what the hell?

University has started, my last semester of my three year bachelor’s degree, how exciting! (frightening) I’m thinking of doing Honours next year anyway, I have been considering this since the first year so thankfully I shall have an extra year to work on my folio, incase I’m not really proud of it in 12 weeks and knowing me, most likely I won’t be.

Blazer and shirt are from an op shop, skirt is from a vintage market, tights and socks from Myer and the shoes are Jeffrey Campbell. The outfit was inspired by school girl uniform. High waisted black skirts and shirts are my favourite outfit combination. I’m tempted to wear a variation of this everyday, kind of like a cartoon character. Oh! The wig is actually light pink, tis from eBay. I know the colours looked all messed up in these images. I assure you that future outfit photos won’t be so shocking. I actually like the idea of taking them anyway, to have an archive of what I previously wore.

My boyfriend doesn’t really care about fashion much, he cringes at the idea of spending a lot of money on the way he looks. I’ve been trying to convert him anyway though, I think his own taste is slowly getting better. His shirt is from Urban Outfitters, jacket is from Dangerfield, jeans are some random brand stocked at Dangerfield, the socks are from Urban Outfitters and the shoes are chucks from eBay. I wouldn’t usually post his outfit, but I kind of liked this, whatever.

Lastly that delicious looking meal you see is something I created. The bottom is rigatoni stuffed with ricotta cheese. I thought I was pretty amazing for thinking of this, but one search on google images and I discovered it has been done many, many times before. Anyway, on top of that is a layer of Napoli sauce topped with feta cheese. It was pretty damn good if I do say so myself. I didn’t eat this one all to myself. Ha.

Before I end this post, I would like to rant about something. Something that inspired the WTF? title of this post. On Monday night I was watching an Australian show called Can of Worms. They discuss controversial issues on the show, and each week they have a panel of three ‘celebrities’ and ask them ‘controversial’ questions. During the most recent show, the panel was asked if Dressing as Hitler to a party was acceptable. I could not fucking believe that all of them said yes. Well, actually, I could believe it.

What is WRONG with people in this country?!!!! One of the guests, a young woman (I forgot what her name was and to be honest, I can’t be bothered looking it up) told the audience that anywhere other than Australia it wouldn’t be acceptable, but in Australia…. yeah. Uh, good one moron, you just confirmed the rest of the world’s suspicions that Australia is in fact, racist.

The three guests were basically trying to tell us that you know, it can be sensitive, but it’s just a party and people have to have humour. Ugh. Let’s back up here. Do these people realise that Adolf Hitler was responsible for the deaths of about six million people. SIX MILLION, that’s more than the population of Melbourne! Millions of other people were devastated by the holocaust and in terms of history, the second world war was not that long ago.

There are people alive today who were directly effected by what happened. Sure, Hitler is dead and a lot of people living today weren’t alive when this tragedy unfolded but Hitler’s ideas and beliefs still inspire people. That’s why neo-nazis exist, I wonder if the people on Monday’s show have heard of them?

The image of Adolf Hitler does NOT and should not belong at a party. Dressing up as him is not funny… at all and it is not just disrespectful to the innocent people who died, it is disrespectful to humanity.

JULY 13TH

I don’t really want to talk about any corny shit on this blog but this is too freaking cool and adorable not to mention. My friend of the opposite gender and I have now been together for little over a year and to… ‘celebrate’ I guess, he gave me the Hello Kitty Fuji Instax. I was surprised because apparently he sucks at choosing gifts but this is perfect for me. I’ve been thinking of getting one for a while but I rarely purchase things for myself other than Clothes or Shoes.

The stickers are so cute! It comes with a little sheet of them that you can use to decorate the camera. I think I’m going to stick the rest on a drawer… when I finally get one that is.

I made these nachos for us, ha ha, just joking, I had these all for myself, mmmmm. I can eat a lot.

BLOBS

Despite going out and participating in the real world today, at present moment I feel like a blob. A certain member of the opposite gender, with whom I spend a large chunk of my time, recently caught the cold and I think after almost a week it is finally getting to me. I hate getting sick so much, but then again who doesn’t? I’m hoping that when I wake up tomorrow I’ll feel a lot better.

I wonder if black is the main colour of my wardrobe because of my constant gloomy feelings. Maybe… however, despite my comfort in wearing black I also really like lighter, brighter, fashion things… ‘girly’ aesthetics. I am drawn to pastels despite the fact that I rarely ever wear them, although I once seriously considered a pastel green jumper at an op shop. The image below may serve as a visual summary of what I’m attempting to convey.

As I said, most of the time I prefer to admire this sort of style rather than wear it myself. I do occasionally make exceptions. Earlier today while looking through t-shirts at an op shop, I came across a stunning shiny thing, pictured below.

My bffl hates ~s3quinz~ so most of the time I steer away from them but this time he couldn’t sway me, It was too pretty at a price too good to refuse, and I’ve refused a lot of pretty/cute shit for him. I don’t know where I’ll wear this, but it’s one of those pieces that is just nice to have in the collection, knowing that it will be used when a suitable occasion arises.

I would also like to share a jacket, previously mentioned bffl pointed out to me. It’s the exact style I’ve been looking for. The sleeves are a bit big for my arms but whatever, most sleeves are a bit big for my short limbs. I’m going to stud/spike the hell out of it. I’m using the picture you will soon see as inspiration.
